Job Summary :
AECOM is currently seeking a GIS Specialist II for our office in Kansas City to support our FEMA floodplain mapping services. The core function of this position will be to work with a team of engineers and geographic information specialists on flood hazard identification studies. Experience with FEMA floodplain mapping, or the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is preferred. The candidate will work under general supervision to complete GIS projects including extraction and analysis of data and providing recommendations based on results. The candidate should also be able to use and develop advanced tools within the GIS software platforms. Responsibilities at this level may include the designing and programming of databases, as well as overall team or task leadership.
Minimum Requirement:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with ArcGIS and GIS databasesBachelor’s Degree in Geography or related scienceUnderstanding of complex relational database organization, design, and functionalityDemonstrated knowledge of cartographic design and production concepts and principlesMust possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate in both verbal and written form
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with FEMA floodplain mapping and knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is preferredCertification as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)MS Degree in Geography or related science preferred
