​Position Summary
The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, be an efficient problem solver and self-starter, and have the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and agencies. Candidate must be a flexible and creative team player able to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously. Experience in project management and GIS/GPS skills are required. Experience in successful grant writing is strongly preferred. Knowledge of land survey standards, equipment and procedures will be a plus.

This position is in the Division of Facilities and Land Management and is responsible for leading high quality projects on the Tennessee State Parks. This includes the ability to work in the field as well as in an office.  The position requires the ability to effectively have multiple projects taking place at one time. This position requires the ability to work with a variety of people including central office staff, Rangers, volunteers, and others. The GIS software to be used is ESRI.

Knowledge, Skills & Responsibilities
Minimum Requirements:
  • Able to work and communicate effectively with all levels of co-workers and external contacts
  • Working knowledge of ESRI’s ArcGIS for Desktop.
  • Creates specialized data sets, reports, maps, graphics, and other requested materials by analyzing data using GIS
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Able to learn company specific applications
  • Working knowledge of key cartographic concepts and skills.
  • Ability to read legal descriptions, deeds, subdivision plats, maps and software procedure manuals or help files
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Willingness to accept and follow directions
  • Self-motivated and able to work well independently and in team settings
  • Skill in interpreting land descriptions, survey records and aerial photos
  • Skill in the use of land survey equipment and software
Physical Requirement:
  • Enter data into a computer requiring continuous or repetitive arm-hand-eye movement
  • Remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time
  • May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds 
Education & Work Experience
Minimum Requirements:
  • B.S. degree in Natural Resource Management, Geography, GIS or related field
  • Degree may be substituted with 4 years relevant GIS experience

  • Experience in Land Records
  • Experience maintaining digital maps, including; constructing polygons, using coordinate geometry (cogo) and map editing in an ArcGIS environment 
Work Environment 
Located in Nashville, TN.  Under the general supervision of Conservation Program Manager. This position is non- traditional and requires field work as well as frequent weekend and overnight travel. The work area will include all regions of Tennessee State Park. 
This position may involve strenuous activities. This position may spend time in remote locations. The position involves working with office equipment as well as mobile devices, such as phones, tablets, and GPS units. The ability to lift up to twenty five pounds and hike up to five miles a day on and off trail may be necessary. Must maintain pertinent certifications.
