​Position Description

This position is responsible for performing various entry to intermediate level duties for the support and development of the Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Department of Emergency Communications, such as installation, configuration and support of GIS based applications. The Department of Emergency Communications is a 24x7 operation. Applicant must be willing and available to perform duties as required by the job. This may include work on nights, weekends and holidays.

Typical Duties

Using ArcGIS Desktop software for import, process, convert, edit, analyze, modify mapping layers, and update maps into Computer-Aided Dispatch system.Assist and Notify other Metro Agencies and Vendors of changes within managed datasets.Provide internal support for GIS related inquires to the Department of Emergency Communications.Assist our outside agencies (Fire Dept., Police Dept., and Nashville Transportation & License Commission) to maintain and update jurisdictional layers for Computer-Aided Dispatch system.Install and maintain the Department of Emergency Communications GIS software.Research/resolve complex problems within GIS related applications.Assess technical support issues and provide end-user support as needed with a high-level of customer satisfaction in a timely manner.Prepare written, oral, and statistical reports as needed.Attends meetings, workshops, and training classes as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED, one to three (1-3 years) of related experience in GIS data editing and ESRI ArcGIS Desktop. Valid Driver License.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience with computer applications, programming and testing requirements.Experience with Model-builder in ArcGIS Desktop.Experience working with versioned databases.Knowledge of Python programming within GIS environment.Knowledge of current Microsoft Windows OS and Office Suite.Ability to lift, carry and move up to 30lbs during equipment installation and/or maintenance.
