Greater Nashville Regional Council seeks GIS analyst

​Geographic Information Systems Analyst

The Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC) is seeking an experienced Geographic Information System (GIS) analyst to support the agency%u2019s role in regional planning, economic and community development, and the coordination of social services across Middle Tennessee. The position will be responsible for compiling a variety of datasets, creating maps and other data visualizations, and performing analysis to be used in the development of policies, plans, and programs related to land development, public infrastructure, natural resources, and quality of life.

At a minimum, the candidate will have advanced knowledge of GIS applications and products offered by Esri. Knowledge of open source platforms and experience with xml data formats is a plus. Priority will be given to candidates with experience in coding, application development, and database programming to include experience with SQL, Oracle, ODCB databases as well as VB, ASP, VB.NET, ASP.NET, and Java programming languages for web application development and maintenance. 

The ideal candidate will be a critical thinker with a dynamic and engaging personality, strong communication skills, a solid understanding of industry practices, and a track record of completing projects in a timely manner. A Bachelor%u2019s degree in Community and Regional Planning, Geography, Computer or Data Science, or related field is required. Advanced degrees preferred. Foreign degrees and credentials will be considered.

GNRC is the regional council of governments for Nashville and surrounding counties and serves as one of nine regional economic development districts established by the Tennessee General Assembly in 1965. GNRC%u2019s mission is to assist local communities and state agencies in the development of plans and programs that guide growth and development in the most desirable, efficient, and cost-effective manner, while ensuring the continued long-term livability of the region.
